Flora y Tierra has opened for the community to share and learn once again!
Join us at this incredibly important community resource and support their work of holding space for the community to share and learn. Flora y Tierra has been providing years of nonstop educational content from educators and groups from all over the world. Their in-house shop includes hand made medicines, books, art and other collections of various makers and creators. Support them and their work!
We celebrate and observe the love and importance of our mycelial networks both in the ground and on the ground!
The Mycelial Network Gathering is a small peek into the world we help create and support by the love of mushrooms and fungi!
We are honored and very excited to bring some close friends to share this evening with us on Tongva land.
Join Olga from Smugtown Mushrooms and Mario from the POC Fungi Community! They traveled far to join us and share their passions and love of mushrooms with the local community.
They will be offering presentations, discussions and demos through out the night
While we snack on delicious food made by local chefs, folks can gather to listen to a class on:
The Fruiting Body: Immersion into the world of mushrooms + Fungi
Take a look at the roles mushrooms play within our lives, the forest, and in food systems. Learn basic concepts of mycology, explore into their biology and ecology, and learn some basic methods for growing mushrooms in your community garden or your kitchen. Mushrooms and their underground network of cells called mycelium are the unsung heroes often missing from our studies, culture and horticulture practices. Learn the basics to recognize them in the field. Explore different ways to grow them for food & medicine. Take home skills to get started incorporating mushrooms in your kitchen, garden and medicine cabinet.
Together we make oyster mushroom starters to take home to begin your mushroom growing path!
Then we can gather to hear about the:
POC FUNGI COMMUNITY
Join Mario, a co-organizer of the POC FUNGI COMMUNITY as they share their path and passion for mushrooms which helped create and develop this growing community. They will also be sharing and giving a report back from the Fungi Gathering on Kumeyaay territory in so-called San Diego that’s happening March 1st. Mario will share information on how to get connected to a vibrant and incredible community of people coast to coast. Learning ways to connect to people, makers, teachers, healers and others! Mario will be offering teas, tinctures and other items from their community.
Throughout the evening there will be vendors, art, wild mushroom tables, tea, food and more to enjoy! Connect with other mushroom lovers and grow community and resilience!
Mama Maiz will also be sharing a deeply nourishing mushroom broth. We will sit in circle sip on some medicine and discuss the ways we can incorporate fungi medicine into our day to day.
Milpa Vegan will be sharing delicious mushroom food with a short demo!
Milpa is a vegan pop up that transforms family inspired recipes and makes them vegan. Their specialty is making tortillas de Maiz fresh to order while providing quality vegan food. Addie's passion for cooking has grown over the last 4 years and her mission is to bring as many recipes as she can to the streets of Long Beach.
