Take a look at the roles mushrooms play within our lives, the forest, and in food systems. Mushrooms and their underground network of cells called mycelium are the unsung heroes often missing from our studies, culture and horticulture practices. Learn the basics to recognize them in the field. Explore different ways to grow them for food & medicine. Take home skills to get started incorporating mushrooms in your kitchen, garden and medicine cabinet.
BIO:
Olga Tzogas created & operates Smugtown Mushrooms in Rochester NY. Her journey with Fungi and plants started over fifteen years ago. Working with mushrooms + plants in both urban & more wild settings, while developing skills to identify for food and medicine. In 2011, Smugtown Mushrooms was established due to a need for mushrooms & growing supplies, workshops, events & community based science in her area, now Smugtown Mushrooms, ships and partakes in the Mycology all over the world. While continuously learning more and embracing the never-ending, unlocked potential of mushrooms & fungi, Olga teaches workshops throughout the world about wild mushroom identification, medicinal mushrooms, biology, and mushroom cultivation. She was a core organizer for the 2016 Radical Mycology Convergence and the MycoSymbiotics Festival from 2015-17. Olga also helped establish the first ever New Moon Mycology Summit in 2018, in New York. Olga returns annually to offer mushroom + plant focused tours within her ancestral home of Greece.
